DONUTS

A delicious case study exploring

e-commerce platform, Shopify.

In this case study, I wanted to explore other e-commerce solutions by learning Shopify's platform.

As I learned the platform, I created a hypothetical website for a vegan doughnut shop based in NYC. I based this decision on the fact that plant-based foods are becoming more popularized as we shift to a more sustainable lifestyle, as well as the fact that artisan foods are generally favored in the NYC area. Plus, donuts are delicious and the possibilities are endless!

PROCESS

Shopify's platform was intuitive and easy for any business owner to learn when creating their e-commerce website.

The platform also allowed users to start off with a 14-day free trial before buying a plan.

Upon landing, the website shows exactly where each section is located on the page and updates the interface in real time with a helpful side navigation panel.

Users can also easily add, edit, remove and see updates of products.

This populates the order page in real time for a more streamlined process!

WEBSITE

LANDING PAGE

In order to emphasize a vegan, artisan brand, I chose an earth toned color palette with imagery that fully narrates the baking process.

The copy on this page was sourced from existing, successful donut shops in NYC to facilitate the process and not draw attention away from the learning process of this case study. It helped inform me of what good copy should look like to the users. Concise, but informative!

Including a business's principals and real testimonials can spark conversation and strengthens a brand as a whole. It helps illustrate their story through the eyes of a consumer and impacts how other consumers view a business's brand.

Also showing photos directly from the customer adds a layer of transparency to a business's service/product. It builds a relationship with their consumers because it convinces them a business is worth their trust!

PRODUCT PAGE

When creating the product page, I had to be mindful of consistency between photos (since I am using stock photos) in terms of color, lighting, quality and composition.

Choosing the naming convention of each product was a bit tricky. I chose a concise yet informative approach, since this is a food product under a vegan brand that should value transparency with customers.

The footer of the website serves as a subscription service and displays contact info & "address" of the (hypothetical) business. It is based in NYC where restaurants and trendy hubs are clustered.
